When the light of a summer evening shimmers on the waves of Lake Saimaa and the stone walls of Olavinlinna reflect centuries-old echoes onto the water's surface, a moment arrives whose enchanting power stops opera lovers and curious travelers alike year after year.
In the summer of 2026, that moment will vibrate with music and melodies that have echoed through narrow streets as the humming of a summer night and through large squares as the communally empowering cries of crowds for generations.
That ripple is of Italian origin, and it takes us on a journey through a summer full of stories: of love and despair, loyalty and betrayal, fragility and defiance.
Puccini's Madama Butterfly is a story of longing and painful love, while Verdi's Nabucco depicts the struggle of a nation and an individual under the cross-pressure of fate and power.
Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro brings to the stage a lively and intriguing opera buffa, whose intelligent comedy also conceals an astute social critique.
